Buffalo-based artist, Quadir Lateef’s much-anticipated project, Rebel Forces, brings back that old feeling of Hip Hop that has been missed, and blends it with a contemporary flow and style, making it one of the culture’s gems and must-have discs of this year.

Lateef’s lyrical prowess flirts with that of greats, like (dare it be said?) Notorious BIG. At times, even his heavy and rather husky flow is reminiscent of the hip-hop icon, but Lateef’s content is what sets him apart from most emcees, which only accentuates his exceptional lyrical competence.

A poet, innately, Q seamlessly knocks out 12 substantive tracks with a little bit of help from other artists like Brother Ali and Amir Sulaiman, and a familial connection: Alkebuluan and Drea dNur, brother and wife respectively.

Paying homage to Hip Hop as not just an art, but also a lifestyle, Rebel Forces provides old school beats and reminiscent lines from some of the most memorable songs as a representation of the culture. This project clearly highlights Quadir Lateef as a promising artist, and one of the few emcees today onto who the greats would surely be happy to pass the torch.
